Eyeliner: Pencil VS Liquid VS Gel

Eyeliners can truly give a nice touch to your face even if that's all you've applied to your face. However, for a make-up newbie the differences between different types of eyeliners can be confusing. It's possible to get similar looks no matter which type you use. The main difference between these three types are the texture, how long they last, and ease of application.

Pencil Eyeliner:
This is most likely the first kind of eyeliner you've ever used. It's often the type that's included in basic make-up sets. It's the best option for beginners who haven't developed a steady hand yet.
The texture of pencil eyeliner doesn't look very smooth, but you can achieve a smoother look if you color it in a bit more. For a smoky eye look it doesn't blend well, but with enough patience you can make it work
A good pencil eyeliner can last 8 hours or more but an average quality one only lasts a few hours.

Liquid Eyeliner:
If you have a steady hand, you should try out some liquid eyeliner. The texture looks smooth and clean. It's also richer in pigment compared to pencil eyeliners. A lot make-up junkies prefer liquid eyeliner for these reasons.
One downside is that the liquid can dry out if you don't use eyeliner that often. If you only apply eyeliner like once a month, you may be upset that the liquid in the container has dried up after a few months.

Gel Eyeliner:
When paired with a quality brush, gel eyeliner can be a versatile holy grail product. You can put as much or as little as you want. Go light or go dark; it's up to you. With a steady hand you can get clean lines.
Gel eyeliner does smudge easily, so a lot of people like to use it for smoky eye looks. On the flip side, a lot of people don't like it because it smudges easily.

Overall, all of these eyeliners can work well depending on the look you're going for. There are a lot of people who own all 3 types and use them for different things!
